Mischa Barton in trademark battle

Mischa Barton is locked in a legal battle with an Australian handbag company, after the firm opposed the star’s move to trademark her name in the country. The former “The O.C.” actress wants to trademark her name, signature and logo Down Under but she has been met with opposition from Queensland-based Mischa Accessories. Lawyers for the firm have registered an objection with the IP Australia register in a move that could prevent Barton from safe-guarding her name.
The case follows a trademark battle between singer Katy Perry and her Australian namesake Katie Perry, who runs a clothing line in the country. The “I Kissed A Girl” hitmaker‘s legal team took the designer to court in last July over the right to use the name, but abandoned the case just an hour before it was due to be heard by a judge in Canberra, Australia.
